Uday Kiran was born into a Telugu family in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. He attended St. Mary's High School in Hyderabad and later graduated from the University of Hyderabad.

Uday Kiran made his debut in the Telugu film Chitram in 2000. He went on to star in several successful films such as Nuvvu Nenu, Manasantha Nuvve, Nee Sneham, and Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his performance in Chitram.

Uday Kiran was also seen in Tamil films such as Kaadhal, Thotti Jaya, and Ullam Ketkumae. He was last seen in the Telugu film Nenu Naa Rakshasi in 2011.
